Aurora, IL – Today, Association of Professional Police Officers (“APPO”) announced its endorsement of Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin in his bid for re-election. APPO is the labor union representing Aurora’s rank and file patrol officers. APPO President Jared Fischer said, “Mayor Irvin has been instrumental in making APD the premier law enforcement agency in Illinois. We are heartened by his continuing dedication to attracting the most talented law enforcement professionals.”
Prior to issuing this endorsement, Irvin attended an APPO general membership meeting where he conversed with members about his strategies concerning current issues in law enforcement and labor rights. “Unlike a lot of politicians, Mayor Irvin puts his money where his mouth is”, said Fischer. President Fischer explained, “policing is essential, professional policing is expensive and requires elected officials to make professional law enforcement a priority.”
“Aurora has always been a union town. APPO’s members are encouraged by Mayor Irvin’s stated dedication to protect collective bargaining rights for police and working people across Illinois.”
APPO endorses Mayor Richard Irvin for Mayor. APPO will hold Mayor Irvin to his promises to stand up for crime victims, support the police officers who serve them, and to continue to provide Aurora’s citizens with the best police officers in Illinois. APPO knows Mayor Irvin will make good on his pledge to provide Aurora’s officers with pay and benefits reflecting they are the premier law enforcement officials in Illinois.
