Aurora Strong not just slogan, mayor says in State of City address

Just over two weeks after searing tragedy struck Aurora, Mayor Richard Irvin delivered a State of the City address this week peppered with bittersweet pride and optimism for the city.

He began his speech with what he described as “seven simple words when put together define the current condition of Aurora, Illinois.”

“The state of our city is strong,” he said. “We are Aurora. We are strong. We are Aurora Strong. That phrase isn’t just a simple tagline we’ve been tossing around in recent weeks. It’s a real feeling … we are together as One Aurora, through the good and the bad, through the highs and the lows, no matter what is thrown our way.”
